Some pros, maybe?

Of course, there are good and bad in everything. Although there are more negative impacts of joining or applying these subcultures, but there are some positive vibes that can be obtained from skinhead and punk subculture which is the first one or the main one is Brotherhood. They are loyal to each other and they will do anything to ensure their member’s safety and pleasure. Other than that, there are some emotional effects in joining the group.

Skinhead subculture & punk rock music in Malaysia

Since 1990, the subculture of skinheads was brought to Malaysia but at that time, skinheads are too few. On 1992, skinheads have evolved, since Singapore is the source of information about the subculture. Skinheads in Malaysia often commute from Singapore to Malaysia to get the information and knowledge about Skinheads. At that moment, punk rock has negative images as people saw them as problems and chaotic group. Their Trojan hairstyle and the way that they dressed became an issue so they changed to a better and neater style. From time to time, skinheads and punk rock was recognized by people.

The community became bigger and more bands started to play Oi! Music. The Bussiness, The 4 Skins, Cocksparer , Oi Polloi , Last Resort , The Skatalies , The Special , The Selecter give a huge impact to local music scenes and influenced many youths in their music lifestyle.

Punk.

The history of the punk subculture involves the history of punk rock, ideology, fashion art, visual art, literature, dance, and film. Since emerging in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia in the mid-1970s, the punk subculture has spread around the globe and evolved into a number of different forms. The history of punk plays important part in the history of subcultures in the 20th century.

Punk subculture is a massive topic to be shared so I will share some opinions about punk rock music.

The beginnings of punk rock are often furiously debated. This is partially because everyone has different definition of punk rock, and partially because its foundation stones are found in several places. Punk Rock was originally used to describe the garage musicians of the '60's. Bands like the Sonics were starting up and playing out with no musical or vocal instruction, and often limited skill. Because they didn't know the rules of music, they were able to break the rules.

The mid to late '60s saw the appearance of the Stooges and the MC5 in Detroit. They were raw, crude and often political. Their concerts were often violent affairs, and they were opening the eyes of the music world.

The Velvet Underground is the next piece in the puzzle. The Velvet Underground, managed by Andy Warhol, was producing music that often bordered on noise. They were expanding the definitions of music without even realizing it.

The final primary influence is found in the foundations of Glam Rock. Artists like David Bowie and the New York Dolls were dressing outrageously, living extravagantly and producing loud trashy rock and roll. Glam would end up splitting up its influence, doling out portions to hard rock, "hair metal" and punk rock.

Skinhead.

On the early 50s and 60s, there was a group of British Working Class teenagers that was called MOD. They have their own image such as short hair and their way of life was more towards fun in life. The MOD is more likely into fashion and there is a song that is related to MOD which is Dedicated Follower of Fashion by The Kinks. On the late 60s, the group called themselves as skinheads that divert them from the MOD into totally Working Class .They shaved hair and wore steel-toe boots as it can be protections or weapons.

Skinheads consist of labours and they are considered as the less intelligent people by the media. Their daily activities are going to pub after finished their work or hang out at the hall and majority of them is the immigrants from Jamaica. This is the place where they will have a chat with each other and share their interest while listening to SKA music. There are two things that they really love which are football and beer.

What Is Subculture?

Well for me, it is simple. Subculture is a group that has beliefs and behaviours that are different from the main groups within a culture or society. But different people have different opinion about it.

“A subculture is a group of people with different ideologies and usually fashion and music tastes then that of the larger culture they are a part of. Many subcultures also detest the "mainstream" and commercialization.”

“Several subcultures flourish because of the almost genetic need for people to belong, most notably youth. Because of this, many corporations have taken notice of them and begun to exploit and profit off said subculture's music or fashion tastes. This leads to a complete bastardization of the original intentions of the group and may kill off the group entirely.”

“In short, a subculture is a group detaching itself from "mainstream" society, catering to certain people's ideologies and preferences.”

“The punk movement is an excellent example of the rise and fall of a subculture”.
